The Last Of Us is getting the big-scree treatment via Screen Gems, who brought you the Resident Evil movies. (Thanks, Screen Gems!) It’s being produced by, among others, Spiderman trilogy and Evil Dead director Sam Raimi, with a screenplay written by Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, the creative director and writer of the movie’s videogame source material.
The Last Of Us movie to be produced by Sam Raimi, written by Neil Druckmann
Druckmann recently won the punchily-titled ‘Writers Guild of America Outstanding Achievement in Writing for Videogames’ award for his work on The Last Of Us, beating the writers of Batman: Arkaham Origins, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and more.
As for Raimi, he directed the star-studded critically snubbed Oz the Great and Powerful back in 2013 and is co-producer on the 2015 Poltergeist remake.
Naughty Dog co-presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra are also signing up as creative architects, joining Druckmann and game director Bruce Straley in the role.
Gamers and movie fans alike are still waiting for that breakout game-to-screen success that wipes all memory of Wahlberg as Max Payne, Dwayne Johnson as The Space Marine, Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia and so many more abortive crossovers from memory. With no director or cast members confirmed yet, it’s a tad premature to suggest this might be it.
